Rustenburg - A jazz concert to raise funds for the families of striking mineworkers in the platinum mining sector is planned for this weekend, organisers said on Thursday.

Paul Hanmer, Gloria Bosman, and others have offered their creative talents and will perform at new jazz venue, the Orbit in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, on Sunday, Lauren Fok said.

“All the proceeds will go towards the striking workers and their families who have undergone untold hardships for the past four months,” said Fok.

The programme would also feature Sydney Mavundla, Bernice Boikanyo, and Thembinkosi Mavimbela.

Members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union at Lonmin, Impala Platinum, and Anglo American Platinum in North West and Limpopo downed tools on January 23 demanding a basic monthly salary of R12,500 per month.

They rejected the companies' offer that would bring their cash remuneration to R12,500 by July 2017. - Sapa
