Cape Town - The police are looking for information that could lead to the arrest of a man suspected of fatally shooting three people in Bishop Lavis late on Tuesday evening.
The two men and a woman between the ages of 25 and 48 were shot in the head inside a yard in Bosberg Street, Bishop Lavis. The yard is believed to be a drug house that people frequent in the area.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut said the Anti-Gang Unit detectives were probing the circumstances surrounding this incident.
Traut said reports received were that an unknown suspect entered the premises and fired several shots at the victims. Traut said the victims sustained gunshot wounds to their heads and were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.
Traut said the suspect fled the scene and was yet to be arrested. The motive for the murders is yet to be established.
Community policing forum chairperson Graham Lindhorst, who slated the police in the area, said the incident was bound to happen as the police didn’t have a preventive plan in place.
“It’s no use to go after the fact and pick up bodies, we must concentrate on prevention. We have warned them (police) as we have received numerous complaints about shooting coming from that area for a week or so, especially during load shedding and at night,” he said.
Lindhorst said they were also informed by the community that in trying to call the police, the response was that there were no police vehicles to send to the area.
Lindhorst said following the escalation of these complaints to the acting station commander, he assured him there were enough vehicles.
“I have requested a formal meeting with the police to look at the resources, in terms of vehicles. We cannot always accept the excuse that there are no vans, as this is not the first instance.
“They need to answer what they have put in place following the attempted murder incidents and complaints, as the shooting on Tuesday was preceded by attempted murders,” he said.
