Cape Town - Police remain on alert in Manenberg following the murder of Abdullah Boonzaaier the son of late Hard Livings gang boss Rashied Staggie, at the weekend.
Boonzaaier, 34, was shot and killed in Beatrix Court Manenberg on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Andre Traut said at about 9,45pm on Saturday, a 34-year-old man was killed by an unknown suspect in what is believed to be a gang-related incident.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated by police and the suspect is yet to be apprehended,” said Traut.
Anti-crime activist Roegshanda Pascoe said the situation in the area was stable.
“After the shooting happened, only a few rounds were shot in Manenberg. When you look at the incident, this was a constructed hit.
“I can understand people's fear and even people that might have seen the incident, will be afraid to say anything because they fear for their lives and that is a reality.
She said it was believed that the deceased was affiliated to gangs.
“I hope parents will open their eyes and support their children and get them out of gangs. We will be monitoring the situation,” said Pascoe.
Manenberg Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson Vanessa Adriaanse said community leaders would meet.
“I can confirm that there was someone who was shot last night (Saturday) and he was part of the gang. The area is calm now and there are no signs that the incident might be escalated.
“The community leaders with SAPS and Law Enforcement Advancement Plan officers are monitoring the situation.
“We will meet today as leaders to get more information on what exactly happened and what resources are needed from our side so that we can be able to keep the situation calm,” said Adriaanse.
