Durban — A private security company responded to and recovered three reportedly stolen vehicles in Durban in separate incidents over two days.
On Friday, at about 7.02am, the Marshall Security emergency dispatch centre received a message on a WhatsApp crime alert group from a Marshall Security client regarding a motor vehicle theft in the La Lucia area and multiple armed response officers responded to the call.
Managing director Tyron Powell said the premises, a holiday home with guests staying on the property, had a Hyundai i10 parked on-site. On Friday morning, the guests discovered the vehicle had been stolen, after leaving the keys in the ignition. The gate was open with no signs of forced entry.
“The vehicle was equipped with Cartrack, and our Special Operations Team was activated to assist in tracking it. The team proceeded to the vehicle’s last known location at King Dinuzulu Road, Berea, where it was found abandoned,” Powell said.
He said police and the car rental company were also in attendance.
In another incident on Thursday, at approximately 4.45pm, the Marshall Security team received information about a stolen silver Polo being towed by a tow truck in the Glen Anil area. The team immediately mobilised to locate the stolen vehicle.
“While patrolling the area, members of our Special Operations team, along with Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes, spotted the tow truck with the stolen vehicle on Glen Anil Street. Acting swiftly, they managed to stop the tow truck and apprehend the driver,” Powell said.
“Upon questioning the tow truck driver, it was revealed that a male had hired him to tow the vehicle to a local panel beaters premises in Glen Anil from Chatsworth.”
Powell added that following information from the tow truck driver, teams pursued the suspect and successfully apprehended him in Chatsworth.
He said during the interview, the suspect confessed to stealing the vehicle last Saturday from a Chatsworth market.
The vehicle and suspect were taken to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing.
In the third incident, also on Thursday, at about 2.53pm, Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team was activated by Tracker regarding a stolen Toyota Etios which had been stolen from the Durban Central area.
The company dispatched its Special Operations Team. With assistance from Tracker SA and KwaMashu SAPS, the vehicle was found abandoned in the KwaMashu area.
The vehicle was given to KwaMashu SAPS for further processing.
Powell said these incidents highlight the unwavering commitment of Marshall Security, Cartrack, Tracker, and SAPS to community safety.
“We commend our officers and the collaborative partners for their vigilance and swift response, ensuring that stolen vehicles are promptly recovered and returned to their rightful owners.”
