The Beatles’ drummer Ringo Starr has confirmed that Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan will be playing him in the new set of films, which will explore the lives of each member of the world-renowned rock group’s perspective.
The English musician, songwriter and actor, whose real name is Sir Richard Starkey, is part of the world-renowned rock band with John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
Widely regarded as the most influential band of all time, the “Here Comes the Sun” hitmakers were integral to developing 1960s counter-culture and recognising pop music as an art form.
Their sound also incorporated elements of classical music as well as folk and hard rock.
British film director Sam Mendes, who also helmed ‘American Beauty” and "1917 ", will be directing a film from each band member’s perspective.
All four productions are set to be released in 2027.
In regards to his biopic, Starr recently told “Entertainment Tonight” that he is thrilled that the “Saltburn” star is portraying him.
“I think it’s great,” he was quoted as saying. “I believe he’s somewhere taking drum lessons and I hope not too many.”
Meanwhile, Mendes told “The Guardian” that it is a privilege for him to put this Beatles project together.
“I’m honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies,” he said.
Meanwhile, “Beatles ’64”, a Disney+ production which chronicles the spectacular career of the group, premiered on Friday, November 29.
Directed by David Tedeschi, it was produced by iconic American film-maker Martin Scorsese.
The film captures the electrifying moment of The Beatles’ first visit to America. Featuring never-before-seen footage of the band and the legions of young fans who helped fuel their ascendancy, the film offers a rare glimpse into how The Beatles became the most influential and beloved band of all time.
Meanwhile, Keoghan, who is rumoured to be dating songstress Sabrina Carpenter, has had a whirlwind couple of years.
The Irish actor was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Dominic Kearney in the 2022 comedy horror, “The Banshees of Inisherin”.
He is also set to star alongside Oscar winner Cillian Murphy in the “Peaky Blinders” movie.
