The South African State Theatre's Opera stage in Pretoria was filled with tears and heartfelt tributes on Wednesday as family and fans gathered to honour the late gospel star, Solly Moholo.

Solly Moholo, real name Solomon Molokoane died at age 65. Known for his passionate gospel music, Moholo died after suffering a fall on stage in August during an album tour in Botswana.

During the memorial service, his brother in law shared a heartfelt message from Solly Moholo’s wife, Martha.

"In loving memory of my dear husband, it's hard to believe you are no longer here. Words cannot describe how this feels. You were the centre of my world. I’ll cherish my memories of you forever," she said.

Moholo’s son, Thabang, spoke about his father’s role in their lives.

"He truly has set a very good foundation for us. He was someone we always went to for advice... a God-fearing man with a heart of gold. He believed in everyone he met. It’s a very big loss for us."

His youngest daughter, who shared memories of their bond said that her dad passed away after her birthday, said she was longing for one last scolding and to bother Solly Moholo one more time.

“I’ll keep the memories you gave me, Papa. I really love you, and I’ll wear every jacket of yours if I miss your hugs.”

The gospel star will be laid to rest on Saturday. His funeral service will be held at the Akasia Hall, near Wonderpark Shopping Mall in Pretoria, at 8am.

Bus services will be provided for those attending, with more details expected soon.

In a poignant tribute to his musical legacy, his final album, “Wubani o zo Pepeza”, will be officially released on Friday, a day before his funeral.

The album will be available on all digital platforms, ensuring that Moholo's voice continues to inspire and uplift even after his passing.
