Actress Brenda Ngxoli has been announced as part of the supporting cast of a South African romantic comedy “A Scam Called Love” set to premiere nationwide on the big screen this March.

Ngxoli recently made headlines after sharing a video on her Instagram page that captured an argument with her mother, revealing her struggles with homelessness and the emotional toll of staying silent about her pain for so long.

The award-winning actress received financial support from the public after digital creator Mandisi Tshingana raised over R100,000 for the actor and she landed a new hosting gig, for the South African Traditional Leaders Awards (SATLA) and now she will be on cinema screens.

“A Scam Called Love” stars award-winning actress Didintle “Didi” Khunou as Zola, an ambitious chef chasing her culinary dreams, and UK-based rising star Tobi Bamtefa as Julian, a carefree line cook with a love for risk.

The film follows Zola and Julian as they enter a green-card marriage to solve their financial and immigration woes. But keeping up the lie for government officials is nothing compared to fooling their own families.

The supporting cast is stacked with South African screen favourites, including Thando Thabethe, Lwazi Mthembu, Fezile Mpela, Rendani Mufamadi, and Trevor Gumbi.

“A Scam Called Love” is directed and written by the powerhouse husband-and-wife duo Carla Fonseca Mokgata and Nthato Mokgata, also known as Spoek Mathambo

"We wanted to create a film that’s not just funny, but cleverly chaotic, deeply South African, and effortlessly stylish—one that celebrates love in all its messy, unpredictable glory," said the powerhouse duo.

“A Scam Called Love” premieres nationwide at Sterk-Kinekor and Nu Metro screens on Friday, March 7, 2025.
