The multi-award-winning series Tjovitjo has established itself as the go to drama for cameo once off appearances starting with Tony Kgoroge, who's character Mojantji then became a recurring character.
Kgoroge, who works almost exclusively on international theatrical films, made his return to TV on Tjovitjo and after not having been on the small screens for over a decade.
His appearance was followed by Oscar 'Oskido' Mdlongwa as a club owner and DJ in the kasi of Tjovitjo.
This Sunday’s episode will feature Sdumo Mtshali, Nomzamo Mbatha and Pallance Dladla in cameo roles who collaborated in coming up with their characters and improvised dialogue.
This will be reuniting director Vincent Moloi with both Sdumo and Pallance who first worked together four years ago on another SABC drama series.
“SABC1 is known to be ground breaking, and Tjovitjo tries to keep with that culture. Both Sdumo & Pallance donated their time two years ago to give acting workshops to our dancers, and so when the opportunity presented itself to have guest stars on Tjovitjo there was no doubt in my mind who to get. They’re part of the TJOVITJO family,” says Moloi.
The episode treatment takes on the format of a mockumentary/Reality TV, by following the behind the scenes shenanigans of the crew of an Entertainment that is in the township of Tjovitjo to interview Warren Masemola’s character Mafred, about an upcoming dance battle in the finale of the series.
The storyline the three actors feature in was treated in a manner that allowed the actors to really showcase their acting.
“Tjovitjo is a flagship show. And we constantly try to push boundaries of form with each and every episode, especially this season. We’ve been fortunate to have a supportive channel, SABC 1. We have been given the space to really have fun and play with the cinematic references we make, and even the direction of story, it doesn’t get any better,” comments Matsetela.
“We had space to break convention and explore the mockumentary genre in a collaborative creative manner,” says Pallance Dladla
“Art is an extension of Self. Fully interrogating that which seems different from yourself, and meeting your soul in the process,”adds Nomzamo Mbatha
The episode will also have DJ Vetkuk (of Vetkuk and Mahoota fame) and Mandla ‘Spikiri’ Mofokeng also making cameos.
