Durban — Award-winning broadcaster, children’s book author, voice-over artist and podcast host Carol Ofori has been nominated for the prestigious 2024 African Podcast and Voice Awards (APVA) in the lifestyle and entertainment category.
Ofori presents the weekday mid-morning radio show on East Coast Radio from 9am to noon.
The Carol Ofori Podcast, which debuted in February 2023, has captured audiences with its engaging content, insightful interviews and thought-provoking discussions. It features a dynamic mix of seasoned professionals and ordinary people with extraordinary stories.
Ofori’s nomination places her among other esteemed podcasters across Africa, such as “African Couch Potato”, “My Bukka Adventure”, “Bioscope Brass”, “In My Voice Podcast” and “The Spectrum Podcast”.
“It’s exciting to be nominated, considering the podcast is just over a year old and is doing well. Just to be nominated is the win. I feel the victory is in the acknowledgement. The executive producer of the podcast, Rory Petzer, submitted an array of different clips of different conversations on our behalf. Diane Macpherson is head of content for the podcasts.
“I always wanted to do podcasting but never knew how I was going to do it. When East Coast Radio approached me and said they would help with resources and a platform, it was an easy ask for us to collaborate to make this content,” she said.
Ofori said the podcast aimed to leave the listener with thought-provoking conversations, thinking bigger, learning something and being motivated.
“When we think about guests and the conversations, we always think in that space. We also dabble a little in investigation just for more knowledge and understanding. For example, we discussed whether hair relaxers could cause people to have cancer and we spoke to scientists doing this research. We also delve into everyday things that you do and don’t think about like parking in a shopping centre and what it’s like to be a car guard, what they earn, how it is regulated.
“We have interviewed some interesting people, including slain rapper AKA’s parents Lynn and Tony Forbes and found out what that experience was for them, losing their son, and Olympian Caster Semenya spoke to us about her book and unpacked her struggles. You walk away having learnt something or at least be motivated,” she said.
The Carol Ofori Podcast airs every second week, with each season having eight to 10 episodes.
“We are currently on break as we prepare for season three. We look forward to bringing more exciting and engaging content,” she said.
The Carol Ofori Podcast is available on the East Coast Radio website, iono fm, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and anywhere else podcasts are consumed.
Ofori is also proud of her 6-part children’s book series called “The African Adventures of Sena and Katlego”.
The books take the reader on an African adventure.
