Durban - In the past few weeks, we published two columns by Kevin Lancaster, recounting how he was overwhelmed by baby photos on Facebook and never wanted kids himself.
Some of his comments were taken seriously and we received a flurry of complaints.
Lisa Bulpin, who owns the site (MommaliciousMammas) Kevin cited, said:
“There was an article posted in the Sunday Tribune by one of their journalists, Kevin Lancaster.
“In the article they mentioned Mommalicious Mammas and the moms who are part of the network in a negative, misguided light and I’d like to address it.
“Firstly, Mommalicious Mammas is a standalone website. The fan page is just a page of the network. Our network has eight qualified experts who give our mothers advice. So, besides mothers giving each other advice from experience, we have resident experts dedicated to helping and educating parents who join the network.
Secondly, the fan page is a place where the mothers also chat, support and give each other advice from experience. We have written that the mothers must seek medical advice for medical-related questions.
Yes, there might be times where the advice might be incorrect, but most of the time the advice is fairly accurate. And for every bad advice reply, there is a good one following right behind to correct it.
“We are one of the few South African social networks for mothers who have resident experts and state on the fan page that moms must seek medical advice from medical experts.
“So the fact that our name was even used for such a ridiculous article is crazy and insulting.
“Is he really so uneducated about parenting? He is the perfect example of someone who has no children and no clue what he’s talking about. Even the title of the article is awful. Bye Bye Baby. No Kevin, we are not trying to kill our children. We are trying to be the best parents we can be for them.
“What is even more ironic about his article is that the Sunday Tribune is part of IOL.co.za and they also have a baby/parenting forum that has no resident experts and relies completely on mother-to-mother advice. They should investigate their own back yard before attacking us.” - Sunday Tribune
