Durban - Two alleged robbery suspects succumbed to their injuries and two others were taken to a hospital after they were apprehended by community members following a house robbery in KwaDukuza, formerly Stanger, on Saturday.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the complainant had alleged that on November 19, 2022, at 10pm he was at his residence with his wife when they were accosted by four armed suspects.
Ngcobo said the suspects ransacked the house, assaulted the complainant and robbed them of their cellphones.
The complainant further alleged that he heard gunshots as people from the community came to his aid, after he began shouting and screaming for help, she said.
“A relative who came to assist the complainant was shot by suspects in the abdomen,”said Ngcobo.
The injured man was transported to a hospital.
According to Ngcobo, the suspects were allegedly apprehended by the community. She said the suspects were shot and assaulted.
“The police were called and found them lying on College Road, Oceanview. Two suspects succumbed to their injuries while two were taken to hospital for medical attention,” she said.
IPSS Medical Rescue spokesperson Dylan Meyrick said when Advanced Life Support paramedics arrived at the scene, it was established that four suspects had entered a private residence and assaulted the homeowner.
“Upon hearing the commotion, a neighbour came to the aid of the homeowner. Multiple shots were fired resulting in the neighbour sustaining critical injuries,” he said.
Meyrick said one suspect was arrested without incident whilst two were shot multiple times and taken to hospital under police guard. A fourth suspect died on the scene.
“The critically injured neighbour was rushed to a nearby facility by private vehicle,” he said.
Meyrick said the injured resident was then transferred to a specialised trauma facility under the care of an IPSS Medical Rescue Advanced Life Support paramedic.
