Last week the City of uMhlathuze (Richards Bay) received a 2022/23 Clean Audit Outcome Award with other municipalities.

Of the 54 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal, only four were honoured with this prestigious award, which was bestowed by the Office of the Auditor General in collaboration with Cigfaro, the provincial Cogta, and the National Treasury.

In addition to this achievement, the City also received the Sound Financial Management Award for the 2022/23 financial year. This accolade required the municipality to meet stringent financial ratios, demonstrating the City's commitment to managing public funds responsibly and effectively.

The Clean Audit Award marks the ninth time the City of uMhlathuze has received this honour, showcasing a consistent track record of excellence. The City is second only to oKhahlamba Municipality, which has achieved a clean audit outcome for the 10th time.

The Mayor Xolani Ngwezi said this continued success was a testament to the hard work, dedication and unwavering commitment of the City’s leadership and staff to uphold the highest standards of financial governance.

Ngwezi said this highlighted the exceptional performance and dedication to good governance within the district, making it a beacon of excellence in the province.

Ngwezi said: “These awards are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. It is a clear indication that our commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial management is yielding positive results. We will continue to strive for excellence in all our operations to ensure that we deliver the best services to our community.

“The City of uMhlathuze extends its heartfelt gratitude to all its employees and stakeholders who have contributed to this success. Their collective efforts have ensured that public funds are managed according to the highest standards, benefiting the community and fostering trust in municipal governance.”
