Toyota's new Verso has landed in South Africa, sporting a new face that bears a family resemblance to the latest Auris.

Toyota has also thrown in some interior improvements and engineers spent some time honing Noise, Vibration and Harshness levels.

Of course, the biggest changes are to the front end, where you'll find a slimmer 'dual-zone' design with a brand new bumper, grille and headlights that incorporate daytime running lights. High Intensity Discharge lights are fitted to the TX model.

Changes to the rear end are subtler, but there is a new bumper that incorporates a low-level diffuser.

While the basic design of the interior remains as before, the upgraded model features new trim detailing, softer-feeling materials and redesigned seat fabrics in the case of the S and SX models.

MORE FEATURES

Toyota has also improved the standard equipment level, with entry S versions now receiving front fog lights and its mirrors are now heated and incorporate turn signals.

The mid-spec SX gains cruise control, touch-screen display with reverse camera, 16-inch machine-faced alloy wheels and a height-adjustable passenger seat.

The flagship TX features a fabric and leather combination, as before, as well as keyless entry and start.

All models retain the Easy Flat-7 seating system, which allows for 32 different seating variations within the three rows that seat seven occupants in total. The boot's rather tight with seven-up, just 155 litres to spare, but fold the third row and it offers 440 litres.

There's very little change on the engine front - the 91kW/310Nm 2-litre D-4D turbodiesel engine has been made quieter thanks to a reduction in combustion noise.

The petrol range offers a choice between a 97kW 1.6-litre and 108kW 1.8-litre.
