Ridgeville, South Carolina - Volvo has promised that these will be the last teaser images of the new S60 sedan before it’s revealed to the world at 5pm tomorrow in the company’s brand new Ridgeville plant, which is where the it will be assembled for the world market.
The shape under the sheet is clearly derived from the S90 - few of us will have a problem with that - and if build quality is up to that model’s standards the makers of the A4, 3 Series and C-Class may well be feeling a draught when the new Swedish compact premium sedan, built in the United States by a Chinese company, arrives in showrooms late this year or early in 2019.
What we know so far:
The S60 will share its engines with the latest XC60, with two important exceptions: the flagship T8 Twin hybrid (now ‘Polestar Engineered’) gets an extra 11kW and 30Nm for a combined total of 309kW and 670Nm. And, for the first time, there’s no diesel option, as Volvo begins to make good on its threat to phase out compression-ignition engines in search of a cleaner, more politically correct future.
