Los Angeles, California - Actress Mary McCormack has shared video of her husband Michael Morris' Tesla shooting flames while in Southern California traffic.

McCormack said in an accompanying tweet on Friday that there was "no accident" and the incident was "out of the blue." Sheriff's Lieutenant William Nash in West Hollywood said on Saturday deputies saw smoke coming from the electric vehicle and then fire; they requested help from firefighters who quickly extinguished the flames.

@Tesla This is what happened to my husband and his car today. No accident, out of the blue, in traffic on Santa Monica Blvd. Thank you to the kind couple who flagged him down and told him to pull over. And thank god my three little girls weren’t in the car with him pic.twitter.com/O4tPs5ftVo

Tesla called the incident "an extraordinarily unusual occurrence" and said it was investigating. Nash said the driver, who was not named in a log entry, was out of the car and there were no injuries. Nash said the log entry cited the possibility of a faulty battery.

The Tesla spokeswoman said the cabin of the Model S was unaffected by the fire, allowing the driver to get safely out of the car.

"While our customer had time to safely exit the car, we are working to understand the cause of the fire," she added.

Meanwhile, the US National Transportation Safety Board said on Monday it would send a technical specialist to observe a Tesla examination into the causes of the fire.
