A routine intimidation complaint led Pretoria-Moot police to a major weapons bust on Sunday exposing an illegal stockpile of firearms and ammunition inside a local apartment.
Gauteng police spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk said officers arrived at the residence around 7pm and questioned the occupant about a reported firearm. When asked to produce it, the man directed them to a sofa, where a revolver was found.
"The firearm which had no license was seized and they conducted a further search on the apartment and they recovered a safe with three additional firearms and 180 live rounds of ammunition. The suspect was unable to provide a valid license or justification for possessing these firearm," said van Dyk.
All four firearms and the ammunition were seized, and the suspect was taken into custody. Charges include possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Police have sent the weapons for ballistic testing to determine if they have been linked to any criminal activity.
