London - Toilet paper issued to Hitler’s troops is going up for sale at auction - with an estimated value of about £100 (about R1 900).

The roll is part of a collection of Nazi memorabilia assembled by a private Irish collector over 25 years, according to auction house Whyte’s of Dublin.

The unopened roll of Edelweiss-brand Klosettpapier (toilet paper) is said to be in a ‘remarkably unused condition’ according to auctioneer Stuart Purcell.

The roll’s wrapper includes a small print of the Nazi imperial eagle. It goes under the hammer on September 17.

‘We had a German World War Two helmet in March which sold for 10,000 euros [£8,400] and the guy whose collection it is [from] was one of the bidders,’ Mr Purcell said.

‘It’s fascinating someone in 1945 would say “We’ll put that toilet paper aside because someone will find that interesting in the future.” You would have thought it would’ve been used during the war.’
