London - After all those years risking life and limb just to deliver a box of chocolates, the Milk Tray Man deserved a restful retirement.
But 13 years after his last TV commercial, the hero in the black polo neck is making a comeback.
From 1968 to 2003 the Bond-style action man made women’s hearts beat faster by diving off cliffs, crashing through windows and dodging sharks.
undefinedAt the end of his death-defying mission, he would quietly leave a box of chocolates – and his calling card – for a beautiful woman to find as the voiceover announced: ‘And all because the lady loves Milk Tray.’
The hero of the new ads - Liverpool fireman Patrick McBride, 39 - wants to show another side to the taciturn hero.
Mr McBride, who saw off more than 20 000 other would-be Milk Tray Men, said: ‘I don’t think we got to see enough of the previous Milk Tray Man.
‘It was “here’s the chocolates” and run. You didn’t get to see why he was delivering these chocolates, which is the thoughtful side of those things.’
