Sydney - Police in Australia on Monday reportedly caught a thief with a serious shoe fetish and confiscated 1 000 stolen second-hand pairs found in his home.
The 57-year-old was arrested in the Melbourne suburb of Kilsyth by officers investigating the disappearance of a few pairs of sneakers, The Age newspaper reported.
“They were in his kitchen cupboards, under his sinks, they were in the cupboards above the sink,” senior constable Peter Baker of Mooroolbark police was quoted as saying.
“It really looks like he's just an old man, who is harmless. He's never been in trouble with the police before and he's just got a fascination with shoes.”
The report said most of the shoes were men's and women's canvas sneakers.
The man admitted to the crime after he was caught on camera stealing a pair of shoes outside the front door of a woman in December, Baker told The Age.
His neighbours told police they only ever saw him wearing one pair of shoes, Baker said.
