London - A young mother became pregnant while taking an oral contraceptive - and then gave birth to non-identical triplets.
Christie Fletcher, 22, defied odds of 25 000 to one by having the three boys.
She spoke on Monday of her shock. “I had been taking my Pill carefully and never in a million years did I expect to end up with triplets,” she said.
Fletcher had previously conceived a boy, Osian, while using the contraceptive, but admitted she had not been careful to take it regularly.
She then vowed to take it “religiously” every day - but became pregnant again.
The hairdresser from Wrexham and her partner Carwyn Jones, 27, were in for another shock when a scan revealed she was expecting triplets.
The boys were born early at eight months. Jorj arrived first, followed by Isaac and Jac.
Fletcher added: “They certainly keep me busy, but I love my huge brood.”
Dr Surabhi Nanda, of Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, said the failure rate of the Pill varies from 0.3 percent to 9 percent.
