Johannesburg - The country's undertakers are up in arms about a sex scene in a coffin in the KykNET series “Vlug na Egipte” (Flight to Egypt), Beeld reported on Friday.
The National Funeral Directors' Association reportedly wrote to the newspaper, distancing itself from the “repulsive” and “unprofessional” image of the profession portrayed by writer Paul C Venter and director Human Stark.
According to Beeld, NFDA secretary Marthie Botha said it had received complaints from its members about the behaviour of undertaker and lawyer Tony Fivaz, played by Frank Opperman.
The NFDA wanted any further scene or references to such “sick” activities removed and for the image of the profession to be restored.
The newspaper reported that, in a joint statement, kykNET and Stark said they were sorry that the profession was being portrayed in such a poor light and agreed that the character was in poor taste, but said this was intended, as it was part of the plot.
They shared the undertakers' view, but emphasised that it was only fiction.
