Two businessmen, who were victims of kidnapping, were rescued and seven alleged kidnappers were arrested in the past week, police said.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said police also seized firearms, cellphones and vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crimes.

In the latest incident, a Chinese businessman was hijacked and kidnapped on December 7.

He was snatched by a group of suspects in the Springs, Ekurhuleni area.

Van Wyk said the kidnappers' vehicle, an Audi A3, was intercepted at an intersection in Lenasia on Sunday, December 8.

Two people were arrested.

"The team then proceeded to an address in Meriting where they arrested one more kidnapper and rescued the businessman."

In another incident, a second businessman was hijacked and kidnapped in Wierdaburg on December 1.

"Intelligence led a multi-disciplinary team to recover the kidnappers' vehicle, a Jeep, which was left abandoned in a garage in Nellmapius, Tshwane," Van Wyk said.

"The team followed up on a lead which led them to an address in Mamelodi where they arrested four suspects and rescued two kidnapped victims. Firearms, cellphones, a Jeep SRT8, and a Hyundai Getz were seized."

The businessman was later identified as  Ashraf Kader. A close relative was also arrested in connection with the kidnapping.

She said investigations in both incidents were under way.
