Indian Premier League fans will be able to watch Faf du Plessis for another season after the former Proteas skipper was picked up by Delhi Capitals.
Ahead of the auction in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Du Plessis, who turned 40 last July, was unsure if he would even get a team for next year’s competition.
However, Delhi Capitals were able to secure the veteran services for a steal at his base price of R4.2-million.

But that's all she wrote from the #TATAIPLAuction
Here is your list of South Africans bought on D2.

Du Plessis has over 10 years worth of experience in the IPL, and first played for Chennai Super Kings back in 2011. In that time, he’s been involved in two IPL-winning campaigns, and finished second in the run-scoring charts during the 2023 tournament.
Marco Jansen set the bar for South African players with a staggering R14.9-million deal, while promising talent like Kwena Maphaka also found strong support at Rajasthan Royals.
While there was a good number of South Africans who were selected, a handful of players will be disappointed at having gone unsold when the auction concluded.
Ottniel Baartman, Dewald Brevis, Keshav Maharaj, Wiaan Mulder, Nqaba Peter, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Rassie van der Dussen can all count themselves unlucky as they will not be involved in next year’s IPL.
Earlier bids in the IPL auction
On Sunday, Kagiso Rabada was the most expensive South African picked up in the bid when Gujurat Titans picked him up for just under R22 million.
The Lucknow Super Giants snapped up Proteas left-hander David Miller for R16 million after the Gujurat Titans decided not to retain the big-hitting South African.
Miller will have his Proteas white-ball captain Aiden Markram with him at the Super Giants after the right-hander was bought for R4 million after leading the Sunrisers last season.
Proteas wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock, who last played for his country at the T20 World Cup in the West Indies, was bought for a handsome R7.7 million by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
