Newly appointed Richards Bay FC coach Brandon Truter wants the club to avoid the dreaded relegation zone in the new season.

The KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit struggled to get going last season and finished in 15th place in the league table, which led to the club having to play in relegation play-offs.

The club, however, managed to survive the drop from the top tier of South African football, after topping the relegation play-offs table ahead of Baroka FC and the University of Pretoria, who were looking to make a comeback in the big leagues.

However, since the club escaped relegation last season, winds of change have been blowing at the ‘Natal Rich Boys’. The club has new sponsors in the form of Phakwe Gas, who are believed to have pumped R100 million into the club.

Given the amount of investments to make the club competitive, Truter believes the club should now move away from the relegation zone and aim to get into the top eight.

“We need to move away from that relegation fight. I think since they’ve been in the premiership, first season I think they finished in 13th or 14 and now last season it was 15th.

“So we need a big season and big performances from everybody and moving away from that zone we need to get into the top eight,” Truter said in an interview with the SABC.

Truter and his charges will begin their premiership campaign at home against Mpumalanga based side TS Galaxy at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 15th of September.
