The match to determine the official club world champion sees the best of the continental winners, Pachuca of Mexico, take on European titleholders Real Madrid on Wednesday.
Pachuca saw off Botafogo of Brazil to win the Derby Of the Americas and then beat Egypt’s Al-Ahly in a dramatic penalty shootout to win the Challenger Cup.
As European champions, Real Madrid received a bye to the Final.
The new FIFA Club World Cup, featuring 32 teams, begins in 2025, but the six member confederations are also keen to see the champions of their respective premier club competitions face-off against one another, to become the official world champion.
The FIFA Club World Cup, featuring seven teams, ran from 2000-2023, but was preceded by the Intercontinental Cup, a joint UEFA/CONMEBOL competition which paired the Copa Libertadores South American champions against the Champions League/European Cup holders from 1960-2004.
The winners of both competitions in 2000 have since been declared world champions.
