Angélique Kidjo, a five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and activist, features South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir in new single, "Sunlight to My Soul”.

The upbeat track, which was released on Friday, July 12, is composed by the most nominated songwriter in Oscar history, Diane Warren.

It was produced by Nigerian Afrobeat star Shizzi, who has worked with the likes of Davido, DaBaby, Chris Brown and Fireboy DML.

Kidjo, a creative force with 16 albums to her name, is regarded as one of the most revered artists in modern music.

She has earned widespread acclaim for hits like “Choose Love”, “Agola” and "Wombo Lombo".

The release of her new single comes after the Beninois-French singer-songwriter and actress celebrated 40 years in the industry with a sold-out concert at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall in November.

“Time Magazine” recently referred to her as "Africa's premier diva” and named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world for 2021.

The BBC has included the renowned artist in its list of the continent's 50 most iconic figures and “The Guardian” listed her as one of their Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World.

In addition, Forbes Magazine ranked Kidjo as the first woman in their list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa and she was the recipient of the 2023 Polar Music Prize.
