The Baps Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) in Durban will be celebrating 25 years with three days of events to mark the occasion.

The temple in Manor Gardens was officially opened on August 9, 1999.

Hari Patel, of the BAPS in Durban, said 25 years ago there was a grand three-day event to mark the opening, adding that reminiscent of 1999, they have been planning a three-day event to celebrate the silver jubilee.

Among the guests are eight visiting swamis (spiritual masters) from Nairobi and the United Arab Emirates.

On the Friday there will be prayers from 8.30am followed by the offering of food to the Gods. A celebration of women will be hosted on Saturday at the Manor Gardens Primary School Hall from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, followed by dinner at 6pm at the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir.

Visiting swami Sadhu Brahmaviharidas, from the UAE, who is also the global PRO Head of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha and was the the driving force behind the temple in Abu Dhabi, the BAPS Hindu Mandir, will give a motivational talk on “Managing Our Moods”  – maintaining love, peace and harmony in this ever challenging world.

This will take place next week Sunday at the Kendra Hall from 11am to 1pm followed by lunch.
