North West MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Madoda Sambatha, was involved in a car accident on Monday evening.
Sambatha and his protectors were involved in an accident near Derby, from Rustenburg to Klerksdorp while on official duty.
Premier Lazarus Mokgosi wished him and his protectors a speedy recovery.
“We take this opportunity to inform the residents of the province that Sambatha and his protectors survived the accident and have been admitted at the hospital in Klerksdorp. We wish both Sambatha and his protectors a speedy recovery,” Mokgosi said.
Meanwhile, the SACP in Moses Kotane also wished Sambatha, who was also its provincial leader, well.
SACP’s provincial spokesperson Jeffrey Lesie applauded members of the medical team for their timeously response.
Lesie said reports indicated there were no fatalities although both the MEC and his protectors had suffered some injuries.
“The protector drivers were taken to a private care facility while Cde Sambatha insisted on being taken to a public health care facility. As the SACP in the province, we take inspiration and pride in the confidence our leader has placed in the public health-care system.
“There can be no better testament to the good work he and the team did at the Department of Health during the 6th administration. May the provincial secretary and the protection team recover timeously and continue to serve the people in pursuit of a better life for all,” he concluded.
Sambatha’s unfortunate accident comes barely a week after he was appointed as MEC for Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, by Mokgosi.
He was appointed alongside former ANCYL president, Collen Maine as North West MEC for Department of Arts, Culture, Sports and Recreation, ANCYL provincial chairperson, Wessels Morweng as North West MEC for Department of Community Safety and Transport Management.
