Just like last year, the finale of Big Brother Africa left people with questions. Last year, Zimbabwean contestant Munyaradzi Chidzonga was the favourite, and yet, when it came to the final result, he lost to Nigeria’s Uti.

Again this year, Nigeria won, but as if to rectify last year’s debacle, an extra winner was announced for this round.

Uti went home with $200 000 (R1.3m) and Munyaradzi left with nothing. Zimbabwean business people raised an incredible $600 000 to “save face”.

In the terraces of the live show of Big Brother last night, the buzz that South Africa’s Luclay and Nigeria’s Karen were winners was gospel. So the whole continent waited for what was deemed the obvious, but there was nothing obvious about the result.

For her controversial antics and loud mouth, Karen was tipped to be the winner.

She had set a trend by nominating herself each time she was asked to give a name for eviction. That martyr quality got her lots of African voters.

The question of the night, however, was how Zimbabwe’s Wendall managed to win the newly introduced prize money.

According to MultiChoice, Karen had six country votes, with Wendall trailing with a steady four. It was clear that Luclay’s fans weren’t impressed with his family storming out of the live broadcast.
