TODAY marks a month since Soweto police reservist Busisiwe Mehlwana was allegedly killed by a gang during an ATM bombing at a Total garage in Pimville.

Two police officers arrested for allegedly supplying a gang of ATM bombers with ammunition appeared briefly yesterday in the Protea Magistrate’s Court, where they were ordered to appear again today for a bail application.

Constables Authority Gamede, 29, and Vincent Hlubi, 35, both stationed at the Moroka police station, were arrested two weeks ago and charged for defeating the ends of justice.

They were arrested the same weekend when Hector Mabaso, 29, was nabbed for his alleged involvement in the ATM bombing in Pimville.

Another suspect, Sifiso Shezi, 35, was arrested after he was linked to the Pimville robbery and another ATM bombing in KwaZulu-Natal.

The pair appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and were expected back there for a formal bail application next Thursday.

Shezi was to be transported to Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal, where he was to appear in court on Monday for the other ATM bombing case.

Lieutenant-Colonel Tshisikhwawe Ndou said police were still investigating Mehlwana’s murder as well as the ATM bombing in Soweto, where about 10 robbers were believed to have been involved.

They were captured on CCTV, and their photos were published in The Star.

Ndou could not say whether police were expecting to make more arrests, as that would depend on the investigation.
