Five cops face corruption charges

Five police officers have appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption and theft.

Warrant officers Bongimusa Mthethwa, 42, and Mandlenkosi Mchunu, 48, appeared on a charge of corruption after they allegedly demanded a R6 000 bribe from a man they accused of driving a stolen vehicle on April 25. The case was postponed to July 15 2010.

Constables Njabulo Manana, 30, Victor Diphofa, 31, and Dorcas Manamela, 38, allegedly kept money they got during an arrest. Their case was postponed to July 26.
