IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has told Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane “to mind her own business” and leave his party alone, and rather to focus on service delivery protests affecting her province.

This follows Mokonyane’s reference to the IFP as “a dead snake” during an ANC municipal elections victory rally at Umlazi in KwaZulu-Natal.

The IFP leader was speaking at a victory rally at the George Goch Stadium, where he congratulated his party’s councillor, Mandlakayise Simelane, on winning Joburg’s Ward 65 in the local government elections on May 18.

Thousands of IFP supporters gathered to reiterate their support for their embattled leader following the departure of its former chairwoman, Zanele KaMagwaza-Msibi, to form the New Freedom Party.

“It’s surprising the premier would insult the IFP when she has so much trouble… in her own backyard. Service delivery protests continue after the elections, and people are unhappy with their ANC councillors,” Buthelezi said.
