ENTRIES for the 2011 Pick n Pay Women’s Walk are open, with only 1 500 spaces available for the event to be held in Soweto and Cape Town.

The double-header takes place from the FNB Stadium precinct near Soweto on October 15, followed a week later by the Cape Town walk from the Kenilworth racecourse.

Organisers have advised walkers to get entries in as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Entries cost R30 for adults and R15 for children under 18.

The opportunity to register will open two days before the respective events. Entrants can collect their race numbers, T-shirts and event details over these two days from Maponya Mall and Ottery Hypermarket.

The 5km walks will raise funds to support free cancer screening and health advice in local communities.

All funds raised will go towards the Pink Drive. The Pink Drive Educational/ Mammography Truck will also be present on event days to provide free cancer screening and health-related information.

For those who are unable to make the walk, donations are welcomed.

Pink Drive donations can be made at tills at any Pick n Pay stores nationwide this month.

“We are proud to support this event which will afford many women the opportunity to receive a cancer screening while enjoying the opportunity to exercise with friends, colleagues and family,” said Bronwen Rohland, Pick n Pay’s director for marketing and sustainability.

The walks mark Pick n Pay’s continued hands-on involvement in all aspects of the community.

The event’s co-sponsors include Cipla, M-Net Cares and PnP4Energi Drink.

Entries are available at www.pnp.co.za/womenswalk or in-store at the Maponya Mall and Ottery Pick n Pay. For more information visit www.pnp.co.za or contact TopEvents on 086 005 1021.
