A 37-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to rape a 13-year-old boy in Zola.

Soweto police spokesman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the teenager had told police in his statement that the suspect was “trying to penetrate him before he was disrupted by people passing who screamed at and stopped him”.

Makhubela said the incident happened on Tuesday evening after the suspect met the boy in the street in Zola 1.

“He allegedly gave the boy R7 and took him to an open field where he pulled down the youngster’s trousers and his own. He was seen by people passing by while struggling with the boy,” he said.

“Those people stopped him, called police and kept an eye on him so he could not run away until police arrived. He was arrested and charged with attempted rape and is due to appear at the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.”

Makhubela said another case was under way in court in which a 12-year-old boy was allegedly raped by a man in Jabulani earlier this year.
