Cape Town - Join the Masque Theatre for a day of laughter and learning at their Theatre Bootcamp Comedic Acting workshop. Dive into the world of comedic acting at the next Theatre Bootcamp Onstage Basics workshop.

The event forms part of their insightful workshop series, which is designed to equip interested people with different theatre skills needed for creating a production or running a theatre.

The programme features monthly sessions each covering different aspects of the theatre.

Masque vice-chairperson Christine Kaye said the workshop is perfect for fledgling actors who aim to sharpen their comedy skills.

“We’re offering this workshop to help aspiring performers get a solid grasp of stagecraft and comedy techniques. It’s also our way of giving back to the community, helping to nurture local talent. Throughout the day, we’ll dive into the basics of stage directions, warm up exercises, acting techniques, comedic timing, facial expressions, voice tones, and more.

“Plus, there’s a lot of hands-on practise with scripts and performances to really bring those skills to life. This is a workshop for theatre/stage performance, not stand-up comedy.”

Kaye said the immersive session will cover everything from the basics of stagecraft to comedic timing and script preparation.

“Get ready for practical exercises, partner script readings and a cool-down session to unwind.”

Touching on the growing comedy scene in SA, Kaye said: “The performing arts scene is booming right now with lots of fresh talent popping up.

In Cape Town, staying busy as a comic actor means nailing your stage presence and comedic timing ... and being able to connect with a wide range of audiences. It also helps to be versatile in both comedy and drama so you can take on a variety of roles. Also, keeping up with learning and networking is key to staying relevant and booking gigs.”

Participants must be 18 or older to sign up. For further information, email [email protected].

The participation fee per workshop for non-members is R30.
