A 15-year-old boy was among three people shot in Athlone on Wednesday afternoon, leaving two dead and the other in hospital.
Manenberg police attended the crime scene shortly before 1pm and found the bodies of the victims lying on the ground.
“Upon arrival at the scene in Heideveld Road at around 12.45, they found the bodies of two unknown males who sustained gunshot wounds,” police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said.
“The males, aged 15 and 30, were declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel.
“A 32-year-old man who sustained injuries as a result of gunshots, was transferred to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” he said.
Police have since opened cases of murder and attempted murder for investigation.
The unknown suspects who ran away are yet to be arrested and the motive for the attack is unknown at this stage.
The shooting occurred 17 hours after an unknown driver, in his 40s, was found in the vehicle at the corners of Plein Street and Beverly Road, in Eersterivier.
Two passengers were found in the car with minor injuries.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said the driver was found with a gunshot wound on the right arm.
“According to reports, SAPS received a shooting complaint (and) on arrival they found the body of the deceased with a gunshot wound on the right arm.
“Deceased was found on the driver's side sitting in a Maroon i30 Hyundai. Two occupants, both aged 30, had minor injuries to their lips. Investigations continue,” he said.
The motive for the shooting and suspects is also yet to be established.
