The night carried a rare kind of emotion as Doja Cat made her debut in South Africa. There was excitement, but also something deeper.

The crowd did not just welcome her; they claimed her as their own. And in return, she leaned into the moment, visibly moved by the connection unfolding in real time.

“For a place that I have never been to, I feel like I have been here before,” she told the audience.

“That is what makes South Africa special. I want to thank everyone here tonight. This moment is bigger than me and bigger than everyone in this room.”

She took a pause, letting the cheers settle before continuing, “Please make some noise for Global Citizen for making this possible. This has been one of the most enjoyable shows I have ever done, and I am grateful it happened here.”

Cat performed on Friday, March 20, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria as part of the Global Citizen Move Afrika tour, an initiative focused on economic investment and health across the continent.

Born Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, the Grammy Award-winning artist shared a visible bond with the audience. That connection peaked when the crowd chanted her Zulu name, Zandile, a moment that brought a shift in her energy as she took it in.

“Thank you for coming out tonight,” she added. “Your energy is incredible. I love you. Thank you.”

Her set featured popular tracks including “Paint the Town Red”, “Woman” and "Streets, while local artists The Joy and Moonchild Sanelly added to the line-up.

The performance arrives at a time of continued success for the artist, following the release of her 2025 album “Vie" and a growing number of Grammy nominations.
