As the holiday season draws closer, it's time to get into the festive spirit, and I've already started the annual holiday binge with Netflix's "A Merry Little Ex-mas".
The story follows the iconic Alicia Silverstone in the lead role of Kate, a mother of two who put her career on hold for her husband Everett (Oliver Hudson) to live out his dreams as a doctor in his small town, Winterlight.
Kate is a people-pleasing, eco-conscious handywoman who can fix anything, but underneath her cheerful exterior, she struggles with resentment for what she has given up. She feels like she missed her chance to make a positive impact on the planet.
All that changes when Kate and Everett decide to get a divorce, or in their words, "conscious uncoupling".
Despite the separation, Kate still wants one more Christmas with her family before she has to sell her house (the mothership) and move to Boston to take up a job as an architect. A plan that she hasn't told her family about.
Chaos ensues when Kate finds out that Everett has been secretly dating Tess (Jameela Jamil) just nine months into their separation, and to make matters worse, he introduces her to the family and invites her to join their festive traditions.

Tess is highly successful and runs an NGO, which makes Kate despise Everett and her life even more.
Overcome with jealousy, Kate attracts the attention of a 28-year-old hunk, Chet (Pierson Fodé), and, in typical holiday movie style, hilarity ensues.
From a shirtless Christmas party guest to a sledging accident and even a small fire which burns down the Christmas tree, this film is filled with laughter, nostalgia and heart-warming drama as Kate and Everett find themselves in competition over who can outdo the other during the holiday season.

But don’t worry, like every good holiday movie, "A Merry Little Ex-Mas" wraps up with a happy ending.
As the festive spirit shines through, Kate and Everett come to realise what they truly want, leaving viewers all warm and fuzzy, just like a good Christmas movie should.
The film is a delightful watch for the whole family. It blends comedy, charm and is a reminder of the importance of family, especially during the holiday season.
The film also stars Melissa Joan Hart as April, Geoffrey Owens and Emily Hall, among others.
Rating: 3/5 stars. Enjoyable, but not ground-breaking.
