Maleh (born Malehloka Hlalele), the acclaimed South African vocalist, began her musical journey in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho, where she was born and raised.

Her unmistakable voice first gained national attention through hit collaborations such as DJ Qness’s “Uzongilinda” and “Time”, DJ Ganyani’s “Not So Far” and DJ Kent’s global success, “Falling”.

These songs cemented her place as one of the leading voices in the Afro-soul and house scenes.

Her debut album, “Step Child”, introduced audiences to a sound rooted in sincerity and self-discovery. Through tracks like the title song, she explored themes of belonging, self-worth and the complexities of womanhood.

The album’s standout singles, “Under My Skin" and “Chimsoro”, received widespread radio play, dominating charts across Mzansi.

The success of “Step Child" led to major industry recognition, with nominations for Best African Pop and Best Contemporary Jazz at the 2013 Metro FM Music Awards.

That same year, the album won the South African Music Award (Samas) for Best African Adult Album and earned further nominations for Album of the Year and Best Female Artist of the Year.

Maleh continued to evolve artistically with her 2022 release, “Lerato Laka", which explored themes of love and emotional resilience.

In 2025, she returns with a new single, “Dithapelo”, marking the beginning of what she calls her artistic and spiritual rebirth.

Set for release on Friday, November 14, the song, which means “Prayers” in Sesotho, is a heartfelt reflection on faith, healing and transformation.

The song features Mzizi, a rising Mosotho artist, whose vocal energy blends seamlessly with Maleh’s soulful tone.

Together, they create a sound that merges Afro-soul, Afro-pop and gospel influences. The track reflects her Basotho roots while embracing a broader, more spiritual musical direction.

To celebrate this new era, Maleh will host an exclusive pre-listening concert at Johannesburg’s Untitled Basement on Thursday, December 13.

The performance will feature Dithapelo alongside songs from her forthcoming album of the same name, giving fans an early glimpse into her evolving sound and message.

“This partnership with Bassline feels like a true artistic rebirth,” said Maleh.

“Dithapelo is not only the title of my new single but also the name of my upcoming album. I wanted to invite people into my personal conversations with my Maker. Sonically, it remains soulful, but with more depth and reflection. This project is about faith, growth, and renewal.”

She added that her goal with the album is to write songs that connect to daily life experiences while reminding listeners of the power of faith.

“I’m trying to direct attention back to the idea that you can’t overcome life’s challenges without a relationship with Christ.”
