Soweto Fashion Week (SFW) Autumn/Winter 2026 marked a significant milestone in its growing international footprint with the African debut of award-winning Spanish designer Viktória Varga - bringing her distinctive European aesthetic to the heart of Soweto.

VIKTORIA VARGA was established by Varga following a career that spanned professional tennis and the finance sector.

The career change was a deliberate pivot sparked by a desire to return to creativity and self-expression. Based in Marbella, Spain, the brand was founded in Budapest, Hungary and has since grown into an internationally recognised label built on the philosophy that puts personal identity at the heart of every garment.

“I believe clothing is self-expression, and that the pieces I design instil confidence. A VV garment doesn’t hide, it reveals. Not loud, but authentic. I design for those who believe in details, stories and staying true to themselves.

"Every garment carries part of me too - my courage, my colours, my decision to be seen, to be present, exactly as I am,” said Varga.

The brand has earned significant international recognition, receiving the Fashion Design Grand Prix at the European Business Milestone Awards in London in 2023 and being named Designer of the Year at the Glamour Hungary Women of the Year Awards in 2022.

Her collections have shown in Marbella, Germany, Vienna, Dubai, Leipzig and Brussels - with her Soweto Fashion Week appearance marking her first showcase on African soil.

Her SFW collection featured a selection of evening dresses, statement skirts with sculptural shapes,hand-painted panels, bold colour and her signature ribbon and pom-pom details.

Each of the renowned Spanish designer's pieces is handcrafted in Europe with meticulous attention to detail.

“Presenting at Soweto Fashion Week was an incredibly powerful experience. There’s a raw energy and authenticity here; it felt like a true celebration of creativity, culture, and individuality. What surprised me most was the level of talent and the boldness of self-expression.

"There’s a fearless approach to fashion; the people are not afraid to stand out and tell their stories through style,” Varga said.

“I would love to come back - not only to show again, but to build deeper connections and collaborations within the South African fashion community,” she added.

Varga’s debut at Soweto Fashion Week speaks to the platform’s growing global reach and its vision of positioning South Africa as a destination for world-class fashion exchange.
