Cape Town - Cavendish Square and police have confirmed that an armed gang robbed a jewellery store in the upmarket shopping centre in Claremont on Tuesday morning.
The mall said on Twitter that seven armed robbers had hit Trigg Jewellers at 10.45am on Tuesday before fleeing the scene.
No injuries were reported and shops were back to trading as usual, Cavendish Square said.
Western Cape police put the number of robbers at four.
“They threatened the staff and smashed the display cabinets, with the smoke alarms being activated … they fled with watches,” police spokesman FC van Wyk said.
He added that no shots were fired.
Detectives were on the scene investigating. No arrests have been made.
According to online reports, shoppers were locked in various shops as the armed robbery took place.
