Woodstock library ran a membership drive at the adjacent Woodstock Town Hall, last Thursday, encouraging the public to sign up for a range of services.
The library has a seniors club, a youth chess club and a social club, said senior librarian Noxolo Gaba.
She said the library was hoping to grow its seniors club as there are two old age homes near the library.
Marina Harris, 74, who stays at Haven Old Age Home Woodstock has been part of the seniors club for the past four years.
“We meet every Thursday, we play chess and scrabble and it feels so uplifting to interact with fellow seniors,” she said.
Also at the event, City staff from other departments provided information on the City’s expanded public works programme as well the Matrix drugs and alcohol rehabilitation programme.
“If anyone is using drugs and alcohol, we will assist anyone who is struggling with it. We help addicts identify their triggers, so that we can provide them with the tools and treatment so that they can live a sober life,” said Sabrina Maharaj, a therapist from the Albow Gardens Matrix site in Brooklyn, which is part of Albow Gardens clinic.
