The Nehemiah Foundation NPC, a non-profit company that enhances the holistic wellbeing of children, hosted a mental health awareness programme for primary school pupils in Westridge Gardens on Saturday October 26.
The programme was attended by six- to 12-year-old pupils from Beaconview and Imperial primary schools.
Nehemia Foundation NPC teaches children resilience and coping mechanisms, build positive relationships and self-awareness, enhance emotional intelligence and academic performance, and break intergenerational cycles of trauma.
“Our focus on mental health is crucial, as children in Beacon Valley face daily challenges and social ills such as trauma, bullying and violence. By addressing these issues, we foster a supportive environment for children to thrive,“ explained Lavona Jordaan, founder and managing director of the organisation.
Ms Jordaan, who lives in Beacon Valley, said she started the organisation in 2019 after seeing the need for psycho-social support services in her community.
“I live here and see and feel first-hand what my community is experiencing. Our programmes integrate mental health awareness, education, and support through play-based learning,” Ms Jordaan said.
