A suspected robber was shot dead in Arries Street, Surrey Estate, after a car chase.
A robbery suspect was killed and another injured in a violent end to a car chase in Surrey Estate, say police.
Officers were responding to a robbery in the Gugulethu police precinct, says Manenberg police spokesman Captain Ian Bennett.
According to him, a woman who was robbed by three foreign nationals, aged 22 to 27, at 7am on Wednesday February 19, flagged down a police patrol vehicle to report the crime.
The officers in the patrol vehicle spotted three men in a VW Polo that matched the description of the robbers and gave chase when the Polo tried to evade pursuing officers across two police precincts.
As the suspects turned into Arries Road, in Surrey Estate, they lost control of the Polo, which hit a police car.
The 22 year-old suspect was injured as he tried to flee while a third suspect, whose age is unknown, was shot dead by officers after he opened fire on them.
Police arrested the injured 22-year-old and the 27-year-old.
Police have opened an inquest docket in connection with the shooting.
