In a rapid and decisive operation, police recovered a hijacked vehicle, two unlicensed firearms, two magazines, and 14 rounds of ammunition.
Captain Johan Van Dyk, spokesperson for the Tshwane District Police, said that on March 14 police at the Temba SAPS Client Service Centre received a report of a hijacking incident.
Van Dyk said that in response, officers swiftly issued an alert and mobilised all SAPS members in the precinct. Crime Prevention members from Temba, who were patrolling Molefe Makinta Road in Dilopye, spotted the hijacked vehicle heading towards Soshanguve.
“Crime Prevention members from Temba, who were patrolling Molefe Makinta Road in Dilopye, spotted the hijacked vehicle — a white Toyota Quest — along with the suspect vehicle used in the crime, a white Audi A4.”
Van Dyk further stated that while two suspects from the Audi managed to escape, the driver was apprehended. Police searched the vehicle and recovered two unlicensed firearms, two magazines, 14 rounds of ammunition, and cloned number plates.

“Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered two unlicensed firearms, two magazines, and 14 rounds of ammunition. Further investigation at the scene revealed that the license plates affixed to the Audi were fraudulent and originally belonged to a Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle’s original registration plates were found in the boot,” he said.
The suspect was detained at Temba SAPS, while the recovered firearms will undergo ballistic analysis to determine any links to other criminal activities.
Major-General Samuel Thine, the District Commissioner of Tshwane, commended his officers for their rapid and effective response.
