Work to upgrade the Fynbos Dam in Bellville's Majik Forest is set to resume next month, the City said.
Due to contractual disputes, work was suspended in November last year, causing delays to the project. Upgrades are now expected to be completed by the end of June.
The scope of work includes replacing the existing concrete overflow sill with a new apron and concrete sill, constructing new battered training walls and a new stepped spillway discharge channel and lining the channel with reno-mattresses and gabions, and using gabions to protect the basin from erosion.
‘‘Residents have been supportive by being patient while the appointment of the new contractor is being finalised. Going forward if all goes according to plan, it is anticipated that work on site will soon resume to restore the safety and integrity of this valued infrastructure,’’ said Zahid Badroodien, the City's mayoral committee member for water and sanitation.
