Senzo Mchunu is set to return to the Madlanga Commission on Friday, where he is expected to explain the reasons behind the disbanding of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in KwaZulu-Natal.
This week, the suspended police minister faced cross-examination, with witnesses accusing him of not consulting with stakeholders before making the decision.
Mchunu conceded that national police commissioner Fannie Masemola, with whom he confirmed having “a good working relationship”, should have been the first to advise on the future of the SAPS PKTT.
The PKTT, established to respond to politically motivated murders largely concentrated in KZN, had been widely praised within SAPS and by external observers for improving arrest rates and coordination.
