Tributes are pouring in for slain Bloemfontein teacher, Karin van Aardt after she was fatally stabbed in Cape Town last week.
Van Aardt (64) and her husband arrived in Cape Town and were travelling to celebrate their granddaughter's birthday when they came under attack.
It is alleged that the couple stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Jakkalsvlei Avenue and Jakes Gerwel Drive when a man smashed a window and tried to grab van Aardt's handbag.
Van Aardt was stabbed multiple times during the attack, and she died en route to the hospital.
The Freedom Front Plus said van Aardt's murder "serves as tragic proof of the violent crime situation in South Africa, where criminals – emboldened by a broken criminal justice system – no longer respect the law or human life."
The party's Dr Corne Mulder added that it further proved that authorities are turning a blind eye instead of taking decisive action and using every means at their disposal to apprehend criminals, even while a crime-weary community pleads for protection.

In a touching tribute, Primêre Skool Universitas - Tjokkies described van Aardt as a "light and a joy."
"She was a light and a joy to everyone around her, and her absence will be deeply felt. Our thoughts are especially with her family and loved ones during this difficult time. May you find comfort in precious memories," the school shared in a post on its Facebook page.
"Everything everyone says about Karin is true and even more. She lived the sparkle of life. I admired her in all that she was and did for her students. How she taught the children with her hearing impairment always amazed me. My heart bleeds for Herman and family. RIP teacher Karin," wrote Michael Coomans.
"Our hearts are broken. Lots of strength to the family. Miss Karin left deep tracks in so many lives. She lived love and care," added Odette Conradie.
"Such a shame! Condolences to the family! She was my daughter's teacher 26 years ago. She was an awesome teacher," shared Margaret Saaiman.
