A deputy principal at a Tembisa school is set to appear in court on Wednesday in connection with the brutal murder of a school principal in Maokeng Extension, Tembisa, during which the principal’s wife and son were also assaulted.

Earlier this week, IOL reported that Gauteng police had arrested a 50-year-old man in connection with the house robbery and murder.

The principal, Simon Lubisi, was killed during a home invasion at his residence.

“A 50-year-old man was arrested on 14 December 2025, in connection with a house robbery and murder at Maokeng Extension, Tembisa,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi.

Nevhuhulwi said the investigation team followed leads that led to the suspect’s arrest at his home. She added that more arrests are expected as investigations continue.

“The suspect is expected to appear before Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.”

The arrest follows the opening of a case of house robbery and murder after the family of three was attacked in the early hours of Sunday, 14 December.

She said four suspects forcefully entered the home using an axe.

“The husband was shot dead, while the wife and son were assaulted. The suspects stole laptops, cellphones, and cash from the victims.”

Last month, in another incident, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) released the names of the two people arrested in connection with the murders of school principal Ruth Nozibele Tabu, 58, and administrative clerk Nobantu Njombini, 55, who were shot dead inside Inxiweni Primary School’s administration block.

Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane told journalists that Mokgadi Hope Shongwe, 26, and her co-accused, Tuki Benjamin Maditsi, 35, face murder charges in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court following the killings.

Mjonondwane said the State was not yet ready to proceed with the pair’s bail application.
