A 41-year-old man has been arrested and charged with reckless and negligent driving after being caught travelling at 203km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N3 Toll Road.
Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi said the arrest was made on Tuesday afternoon, 13 January 2026, at about 12.30 on the stretch of the N3 between Heidelberg and Villiers.
The man was driving a white Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series SUV when traffic law enforcement officers recorded his speed.
According to a statement issued by the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, the suspect was released on R2,000 bail and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
"He was released on a R2,000 bail pending his formal court appearance soon," said Mmusi.
In a separate incident on the same road and within the same speed zone, officers also arrested two other male motorists for excessive speeding.
A Volkswagen Amarok driver was clocked at 179km/h, while a GWM Haval driver was found travelling at 162km/h.
Both motorists were similarly charged with reckless and negligent driving and were released on R2,000 bail at the Grootvlei police station.
The department warned motorists that excessive speeding on major routes such as the N3 remains a leading cause of serious crashes and fatalities.
